Have you heard of the fermented drink before?
I hadn’t heard of it until I started Trim Healthy Mama. I bought a couple bottles of it at the grocery store but for $4 each for some liquid yogurt, I’ll pass!!
When I was diagnosed with MTHFR, I started looking up ways to make myself feel better. Many people say probiotics help but I don’t like taking pills(or paying for them)
I realized all the benefits of these ancient kefir grains and what they do to regular milk and knew I had to start making my own kefir.
Here’s a few benefits about Kefir that stuck out to me:
- More probiotics than yogurt
- Rich in calcium, protein, and B vitamins
- Kefir has antibacterial properties
- May help allergy and asthma symptoms
Those are just a few of my favorites! For more information, https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/9-health-benefits-of-kefir#TOC_TITLE_HDR_9
That is a great article! I’m sensitive to dairy, but the way the kefir grains change the milk I can drink kefir.
Want my favorite recipe for it?! Here it is!
- Kefir(I prefer 8oz per person)
- A couple big spoonfuls of natural peanut butter(we like Crazy Richards)- I do about 1 tbsp per 8ozs but Nate prefers more
- cocoa powder to taste- again, I prefer about 1 tbsp per person but Matt and Nate like more
- Butter extract. It adds a nice flavor
- Sweetener of choice and to taste(we use about 1/4 C. of Pyure for 3 servings)
I pop all that in the blender and mix it up! Sometimes I add a little xantham gum(just a tiny sprinkle) if I want it thicker but normally we drink it thinner.
